fsel فصل

Moroccan Darija · noun

“fsel” (فصل) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning season of the year.

Meanings

  1. season of the year
  2. chapter, article
  3. to separate (verb fsel)

Usage

Fsel (or fasl) first means the season: "fsel sif", summer, "fsel chta", winter, "fsel lkhrif", autumn. It is also heard for a book chapter or an article of a law, in a more academic or administrative register. The verb fsel, "to separate, detach", exists but is less common in speech than "freq"; it is also used for the dismissal of an employee or a pupil, in the passive "tfsel". Note: at school, the classroom is called "qism", not fasl.
