ghadi غادي

“ghadi” (غادي) is a particle in Moroccan Darija meaning going, on the way.

Meanings

  1. going, on the way
  2. future marker: going to, will
  3. leaving, about to leave

Usage

Ghadi is first of all a participle of the verb "to go": "ana ghadi l dar" (I am going home). It agrees in gender and number: ghadya (feminine), ghadyin (plural). Followed by an imperfect verb, it mainly expresses the future: "ghadi nmchi" (I am going to leave), "ghadi tchouf" (you will see). In speech it is very often reduced to gha, or attached to the pronoun: ghan, ghat. Note that ghadi does not always mean movement. In "ghadi nzel", it simply marks an imminent or future action.
