hiya هي

Moroccan Darija · pronoun

“hiya” (هي) is a pronoun in Moroccan Darija meaning she.

Meanings

  1. she
  2. she, her (emphatic form)

Usage

Hiya is the independent personal pronoun of the third person feminine singular. Since there is no verb "to be" in the present tense, it is placed directly before the predicate: "hiya mrida" (she is sick). It is also used for emphasis: "hiya li jat" (she is the one who came). With a conjugated verb, it is often omitted, since the ending is enough. The short form "hi" exists in rapid speech. The object "her" is expressed by the suffix "-ha": "chftha", I saw her.

هي كبر مني

hia kber menni

“She is older than me.”
