kas كاس
Moroccan Darija · noun
“kas” (كاس) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning glass (container).
Meanings
- glass (container)
- a glass of (contents)
- cup (sports trophy)
Usage
Kas is the usual word for a drinking glass, especially the tea glass: kas d atay, "a glass of tea". It is also used for the quantity it holds, as in kas dyal lma or kas d lma. The plural is kisan. The word also means a sports cup, for example kas l3alam, the World Cup. Pitfall for an English speaker: tea is drunk from a kas, not a cup. A cup is rather called tasa or finjal.

8rres l kas
“He broke the glass.”
