kermous كرموص
Moroccan Darija · noun
“kermous” (كرموص) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning fig.
Meanings
- fig
- figs (collective)
Usage
Kermous means fig, a fruit widely eaten in Morocco, fresh in summer or dried, often with dates or bread. It is a collective noun: kermous means "figs". For a single fig, one says kermousa, and for counting, juj kermousat (two figs). The fig tree is karma. Do not confuse it with kermous n-nsara, which means prickly pear. Spellings with a capital S or ss render an emphatic s, but the pronunciation stays close to kermous.
