khattet خطّط

Moroccan Darija · verb

“khattet” (خطّط) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to plan, foresee.

Meanings

  1. to plan, foresee
  2. to plot, scheme

Usage

A verb formed on the same root as khoṭṭa (plan), of a rather formal register. It takes a direct object, khaṭṭeṭ s-safar (he planned the trip), or l-, meaning "to plan to": khaṭṭeṭ l-shi ḥaja. With 3la, it means to plot against someone: khaṭṭṭu 3lih. In conversation, people often say more simply dar plan or wejjed. Pitfall: in arabizi, khotat most often writes the plural of the noun (plans), not the verb.

Example

خططنا للسفر من دابا

khaTTeTna l s-safar men daba

“We planned the trip starting now.”
