mdawi مضوّي
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“mdawi” (مضوّي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning lit, illuminated.
Meanings
- lit, illuminated
- bright, light-filled
Usage
mDowwi is the participle of Dowwa, "to light up," itself formed on Daw, "light." It describes a well-lit place or a lamp that is on: a room, a street, a house lit up for a celebration. It is also used for a place that gets a lot of natural light, which makes it a frequent selling point when talking about an apartment. Its usual opposite is mDellem, "dark." The word belongs to the standard everyday register, neither informal nor formal. For a bright color, fate7 is used rather than mDowwi.
Example
الدار مضوّية مزيان، فيها بزاف ديال الشراجم.
d-dar mDowwya mzyan, fiha bzzaf dyal ch-chrajem.
“The house is well lit, it has lots of windows.”
