ntouma نتوما

Moroccan Darija · pronoun

“ntouma” (نتوما) is a pronoun in Moroccan Darija meaning you (plural).

Meanings

  1. you (plural)

Usage

Ntouma is the second-person plural pronoun. It is used for a group, men or women, with no gender distinction. It is not a polite form of address: to address a single person politely, you say "nta" or "nti" instead, possibly with respectful phrases. Since the verb already carries the person marking ("ntouma katkhedmou"), the pronoun is often used for emphasis or contrast: "ntouma lli ghaltin", "you are the ones who are wrong". It is also heard in the form "ntoumaya".
