rfed رفض

Moroccan Darija · verb

“rfed” (رفض) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to refuse, decline.

Meanings

  1. to refuse, decline
  2. to reject a request or file
  3. refusal (as a noun)

Usage

Rfeḍ is the common verb for "to refuse". It is conjugated regularly: rfeḍt "I refused", kayrfeḍ "he refuses", ma-rfeḍš "he did not refuse". It is used for a person who says no (rfeḍ yji "he refused to come"), but also for an administration, a bank or a visa application: trfeḍ liya lmelf "my file was rejected". The object follows the verb directly, with no preposition. For a more informal refusal, you also hear bġa ma-bġaš or simply ma-bġaš. The word rafḍ, in the sense of "refusal", belongs rather to a formal or journalistic register.
