rijim رجيم
Moroccan Darija · noun
“rijim” (رجيم) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning diet (food regimen).
Meanings
- diet (food regimen)
Usage
Rijim is an adapted and very common borrowing from French "régime". It is used almost only in the sense of a diet, for losing weight or for health reasons. The typical construction is dayr rijim, "to be on a diet", literally "doing a diet". You also say bda rijim, "he started a diet". It does not mean a political regime. Watch the spelling: in Arabic the word is written like rajim, "accursed", which appears in the religious formula chitan rrajim. Context tells them apart.
Example
أنا دايرة ريجيم هاد الأيام
ana dayra rijim had l2iyam
“I'm on a diet these days.”
