tadrib تدريب

Moroccan Darija · noun

“tadrib” (تدريب) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning training (sports).

Meanings

  1. training (sports)
  2. training course, internship

Usage

The word tadrib means training, especially in sport: tadrib dyal l-kura, "football training". It also means professional training, as in tadrib mihani. It comes from Standard Arabic and belongs to a somewhat formal register, but it is common, notably in the media and in sport. In everyday speech, many people say the French words l'entraînement or formation instead, and stage for an internship. "To train" (oneself) is said with the verb tdrreb. The trainer or coach is mudarrib, or more often l'entraîneur or coach.
