tmentach تمنتاش
Moroccan Darija · numeral
“tmentach” (تمنتاش) is a numeral in Moroccan Darija meaning eighteen.
Meanings
- eighteen
Usage
Temntach is a spelling and pronunciation of tmentach, the number eighteen. Students use it a lot when talking about grades, since grading is out of twenty: getting "tmentach" is a very good grade. Before a noun, a linking l is often added: tmentach-el 3am (eighteen years). The noun then stays singular, as with all numbers from eleven to nineteen. In arabizi, the emphatic sound is sometimes written T (tmenTach). The variant with a plain t is just as common in writing.
Example
بيني و بينك أنا باغي نجيب هاد العام فالنتيجة تمنتاش
bini ou binek ana baghi njib had l3am flnatija temntach
“Between you and me, this year I want to get eighteen in the result.”
