wardi وردي
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“wardi” (وردي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning pink (colour).
Meanings
- pink (colour)
- rosé (wine)
Usage
Wardi means the colour pink. The adjective derives from werda (rose). It agrees in gender and number: wardi (masculine), wardiya (feminine), wardiyin (plural). In everyday conversation, many people also say rozi, borrowed from French, especially for clothes and makeup. Wardi is more neutral and appears more often in writing. In a drinks context, it can mean rosé wine. Do not confuse it with werred or rodd (to answer, to get back to someone): these forms can look like wardi in arabizi.
Example
شريت ليها كسوة وردية
chrit liha keswa wardiya
“I bought her a pink dress.”
