yesser يسّر
Moroccan Darija · verb
“yesser” (يسّر) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to facilitate, make easy.
Meanings
- to facilitate, make easy
- Allah ysser: good luck, take courage
Usage
The verb is almost always used in the expression Allah ysser, "may God make it easy." It is said to encourage someone starting a project, a job, or a business, or to congratulate them warmly. With a complement, one says Allah ysser lik (for you) or Allah ysser 3lik (toward you). The expected reply is amin or Allah ysser 3lina kamlin. Outside this expression, yssar l-umur (to make things easy) is sometimes found, but it is rarer. Do not confuse with Allah ysahhal, an expression often used to politely refuse alms.
Example
آه الله يسر ليك أخي
ah lah yesser lik akhi
“Ah, may God make it easy for you, my brother.”
