Tunisian Derja · verb

“5raj” (خرج) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to go out, leave a place.

Meanings

  1. to go out, leave a place
  2. to turn out to be
  3. to come out publicly, declare

Usage

Khraj (imperfect yokhrej) first means "to go out": khraj mel dar, "he left the house." It is also used for "to turn out to be": khraj s7i7, "it turned out to be true." It can also mean appearing in public to make a statement. With a preposition or an object, it takes fixed meanings: khraj mel mella (to renounce one's religion). The intensive form kharrej means "to take out, to bring something out": kharrejha mel forn, "take it out of the oven." Note the difference: with khraj the subject goes out itself, whereas with kharrej you take out an object or a person.
