7adher حضر

Tunisian Derja · verb

“7adher” (حضر) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to prepare (meal, coffee, things).

Meanings

  1. to prepare (meal, coffee, things)
  2. to attend, be present
  3. to get ready (with rouh-)

Usage

In the form 7adhar (with doubled consonant), the verb mostly means "to prepare": you prepare coffee, the table, a suitcase, an exam. With the reflexive pronoun rouh-, 7adhar rou7ek means "get ready, be prepared". The simple form 7dhar, without doubling, means "to be present, to attend": 7dhar fel 9raya (he attended the class), 7dhar el 3ers (he came to the wedding). Arabic script does not always mark the doubling, and context determines which of the two meanings applies. The register is everyday, in speech and writing.
