ay wa7ed اي واحد

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

Meanings

  1. anyone, anybody
  2. anyone (in questions)

Usage

Ay wa7ed is used to refer to any person at all, without preference: "anyone" or "whoever". The gloss "everyone" is misleading: for "everybody", people rather say koll 7ad or ennes lkol. In a negative sentence, 7atta 7ad ("nobody") is generally used rather than ay wa7ed. The phrase ay wa7ed fihom ("any one of them") is common. In the feminine, ay wa7da can be said for a woman or a feminine object. The register is neutral and common in speech.
