Meanings
- monthly salary

Usage
Chahriya, derived from chhar (month), means the salary paid each month. It is the usual word in Tunisia for talking about one's pay: "khdhit chahriti" (I got my salary), "chahriya s8ira" (a small salary). The word "salaire" is also used, but chahriya remains the most natural in speech. By extension, it can mean a monthly installment to pay, for example on a loan. The expression "3ada chahriya" means "period" (menstruation), but in that case the meaning comes from the expression as a whole. On its own, chahriya refers to pay.
