enti انت

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“enti” (انت) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning you (singular, masculine and feminine).

Meanings

  1. you (singular, masculine and feminine)

Usage

Enti is the second person singular pronoun. In Tunisian the same form is used for a man and for a woman, whereas Standard Arabic distinguishes two pronouns. Since the verb already shows the person, it is mostly used for emphasis or contrast: "enti chnoua t7eb ?" (and you, what do you want?). It is very common in "7atta enti" (you too). Arabic script without vowels hides the pronunciation "enti" or "inti". The plural is "entouma".

Example

انت وين ماشي؟

enti win mechi?

“Where are you going?”
