ezzouz ازوز
Tunisian Derja · numeral
“ezzouz” (ازوز) is a numeral in Tunisian Derja meaning both, the two of them.
Meanings
- both, the two of them
- two
Usage
Ezzouz or izzouz is the definite form of zouz, "two". It means "both" or "the two of them". It is often placed after a pronoun or a verb to stress that two people are involved. So mahlakom ezzouz means "how lovely you both are" and mchew ezzouz "they both left". It is a very common colloquial usage, especially in congratulations addressed to a couple. Note: zouz on its own is the numeral used before a noun, as in zouz ktob, "two books". The form with the article, by contrast, points to a group already known.
Example
محلاكم الزوز، ربي يهنيكم
mahlakom ezzouz, rabbi yhannikom
“How lovely you both are, may God make you happy.”
