firma فيرمة
Tunisian Derja · noun
“firma” (فيرمة) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning farm, agricultural operation.
Meanings
- farm, agricultural operation
- country property
Usage
Firma is a loanword from French "ferme", well integrated into derja. It refers to a farm or a plot of land with a house in the countryside, often outside the city. One says 3mel firma for "setting up a farm" or "buying an agricultural property". The word can also evoke a leisure spot where parties or weddings are held. The common plural is firmet. It competes with the Arabic words 7anchir and sénia, which refer more to an estate or an orchard. Note: it has nothing to do with the meaning of "to close".
