hadhouka هاذوكا

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“hadhouka” (هاذوكا) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning those (ones).

Meanings

  1. those (ones)
  2. those … (after the noun)

Usage

Hadhouka is the plural demonstrative for things at a distance: it refers to people or objects that are out of reach, or that have already been mentioned. It can stand alone ("hadhouka mte3i", those are mine) or follow a definite noun: "el 7ajet hadhouka" (those things). It does not change for gender. It contrasts with "hadhom" (these). The form "hadhoukom" also exists. For an English speaker, the pitfall is the position of the demonstrative: it often follows the noun instead of preceding it.

Example

الحوايج هاذوكا الكل متاعي

el 7wayej hadhouka el kol mte3i

“All those things are mine.”
