intou انتوا

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“intou” (انتوا) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning you (plural subject pronoun).

Meanings

  1. you (plural subject pronoun)
  2. you people, you yourselves (emphatic)

Usage

Second-person plural personal pronoun. In Tunisia the most widespread form is intouma; intou is a shorter variant, also used in online writing. The verb that follows is conjugated in the plural, with the ending -ou: intou mchitou (you left). Since the verb already marks the person, the pronoun is mainly used for emphasis or contrast: "hatta intou" (you too). In Derja it carries no politeness value: to address a single person formally, you say inti, just as you would informally. It is gender-neutral and addresses men and women alike.

Example

إنتوا وقتاش جايين للدار؟

intou wa9tech jeyin lel dar?
