khallet خلط

Tunisian Derja · verb

“khallet” (خلط) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to mix, blend.

Meanings

  1. to mix, blend
  2. to arrive, reach (khlat)
  3. to confuse, mix up

Usage

The sense "to mix" corresponds mainly to the form khallet, present tense ykhallet, very common in cooking: khallet es-sokkor wel farina (mix the sugar and the flour). It also means to confuse or muddle: khallatli el 7keya (he muddled the story for me). The simple form khlat, present tense yokhlot, has another common meaning in Tunisia: to arrive at, to reach a place, for example ki khlatt lel dar (when I got home). Writing without vowels does not distinguish these two forms; only context decides.
