Usage

M3louma refers to a specific piece of information, a single item of information. The plural is m3loumet. It is often used in calls for help on social media, for example "elli 3andou m3louma" (whoever has information), or to thank someone: "ya3ichek 3al m3louma". Unlike French "information", which can also mean the news and the media, m3louma does not mean current events: for that, people say les akhbar. The word is generally countable: you say m3louma wa7da (a piece of information) or m3louma ghalta (a false piece of information). The Latin spelling sometimes drops the initial m, giving 3louma.
