mandhar منظر

“mandhar” (منظر) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning view, scenery.

Meanings

  1. view, scenery
  2. sight, scene
  3. look, appearance (of a person)

Usage

Mandhar refers to what one sees. It can be a landscape (mandhar mezyen = a beautiful view) or a striking scene, good or bad (mandhar ma ynajjamch yetchef = an unbearable sight). Applied to a person, it refers to their appearance, and the usage is often mocking: mandhrek! (look at yourself!). The exclamation mella mandhar! means "what a sight!". The plural is manadher. The spelling "mandhour" found online usually corresponds to mandhour (seen, regarded), a different word. When used pejoratively about someone's appearance, the word can be hurtful.
