Meanings
- death, passing
Usage
Mout is the common word for "death". It is most often used with the article: el mout. It appears in religious or resigned formulas such as el mout 7a9, "death is a truth", meaning it is unavoidable. It is also used in expressions of intensity, for example khtar mout, "danger of death". The same form mout is also the imperative of the verb mat, "to die": "die!". This is a harsh command and should be avoided. To speak of a person's death delicately, people often prefer tweffa, "he passed away", or rabbi rḥmou, "may God have mercy on him".
