Meanings

Usage

Nethakker is the imperfect, first person singular, of the verb thakker (to remember). The prefix n- marks "I"; for the plural, add -ou: "nethakrou". The most common everyday verb in Tunisia is rather tfakker ("netfakker"). Thakker, closer to Standard Arabic, is also heard, especially in a somewhat formal register. It is often combined with "tawa": "tawa nethakker" (wait, it's coming back to me). The negation is formed with ma...ch: "ma nethakkarch" (I don't remember it). The object comes directly after the verb, without a preposition.

Example

ما نتذكّرش وين حطّيتو.

ma nethakkarch win 7attitou.

“I don't remember where I put it.”
