Tunisian Derja · verb
“tar” (طار) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to fly, fly off.
Meanings
- to fly, fly off
- to vanish, be gone (sleep, etc.)
- to lose one's temper
Usage
Tar, imperfect ytir, is used first in the literal sense: a bird or a plane flying or taking off. It is very common figuratively. "Tar 3liya ennoum" means that sleep has left me and I can't get to sleep. For something that disappears all at once, one says "tar". Applied to a person, "tar" can mean that they flew into a rage or lost their temper. The noun tiyara, "plane", belongs to the same family. Context is usually enough to tell these uses apart.
