t3awwed تعود
Algerian Darja · verb
“t3awwed” (تعود) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning to get used to.
Meanings
- to get used to
- to get into the habit of
Usage
T3awwed means "to get used to". It takes 3la: t3awwedt 3la lberd ("I got used to the cold"). In the imperfect, it is yet3awwed. Followed by a verb, it means "to get into the habit of": t3awwed yenod bekri ("he got into the habit of getting up early"). The corresponding noun is l3ada ("habit"). A big pitfall in writing: without the shadda, the Arabic spelling is often read as t3oud, "to become again" or "you come back". That other reading is very frequent, as in t3oud twelli ("you end up becoming").
Example
تعوّدت على البرد تاع فرنسا
