mosta7il مستحيل

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“mosta7il” (مستحيل) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning impossible.

Meanings

  1. impossible
  2. out of the question

Usage

Mosta7il is very common. It is used alone as an exclamation ("mosta7il!", impossible!) or followed by a conjugated verb: "mosta7il nmchi" (it's impossible for me to go). The word is also used to refuse firmly, in the sense of "out of the question". It hardly changes for gender. Watch out: with a negated verb, the sentence becomes a strong affirmation. So "mosta7il manreb7ouch" means "we are bound to win". Online, it is sometimes written with 9 instead of 7, by confusion.

Example

راه مستحيل مانربحوش هاد الماتش

rah mosta7il manreb7ouch had lmatch

“It's impossible that we won't win this match.”
