soura صورة

Moroccan Darija · noun

“soura” (صورة) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning image (screen, television).

Meanings

  1. image (screen, television)
  2. photo, photograph

Usage

Soura means an image or a photo: a picture on television, a photo on a phone or a framed portrait. The most common plural is tsawer, "photos." The diminutive tswira, "little photo," is used affectionately. In the construct state, you hear souret or sorat, as in sorat l3ers, "the wedding photos." One says dreb soura, or more often sawwer, for "to take a photo." Pitfall: the Arabic spelling looks like that of sarout, "key." Incidentally, one of the source sentences contains swaret dar, which means "the keys of the house."
