5arej خارج

Tunisian Derja · adjective

“5arej” (خارج) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning going out, gone out.

Meanings

  1. going out, gone out
  2. abroad (fel khārej)
  3. outside of

Usage

Kharej is the participle of the verb khraj, "to go out". Ena kharej translates as "I'm going out" or "I've gone out", depending on context. The feminine is kharja, the plural kharjin. Used with the article, el khārej means "abroad": fel khārej, "abroad", is very common when talking about emigration. You also find kharej 3al mawdhou3, "off topic". To say simply "outside", Tunisian prefers barra rather than kharej, which is a common trap for learners.
